New crown virus: Sore throat, cough and headache top 20 main symptoms of new crown in the UK
The latest survey data in the United Kingdom shows that the most common symptoms of new crown infection are sore throat and cough, followed by other common symptoms such as headache and nasal congestion.
High fever and loss of smell or taste, once the most common symptoms, are not as common as they once were, ranking even lower than hoarseness, sneezing, tiredness and muscle aches.
This result is based on data obtained from a follow-up survey of 17,500 newly infected people (mid-July 2022) using the Zoe mobile app developed by Zoe Health Research UK.
Sore throat - reported 58%
Headache - 49%
Nasal congestion - 40%
Cough without phlegm - 40%
Runny nose - 40%
Cough with phlegm - 37%
Hoarseness - 35%
Sneezing - 32%
Fatigue - 27%
Muscle pain/pain - 25%
Dizziness - 18%
Swollen glands in the neck - 15%
Sore eyes - 14%
Change the smell - 13%
Chest pain and tightness - 13%
Fever - 13%
Chills or chills - 12%
Shortness of breath - 11%

Another large-scale UK study, React-1, largely corroborates this finding. The project swabs a random sample of 150,000 people across England each month.
The findings show that the symptoms of Covid-19 infection have also changed as the pandemic continues. Scientists believe this may be down to how the virus has changed or mutated over time.
continuous change
Since the original Wuhan strain, several new coronavirus variants have emerged, Omicron is the latest and has become the dominant global strain, and its second-generation subtype variant is also being spread rapidly.
Loss of smell and taste appears to be less common, according to the React-1 research team from Imperial College London. Instead, people reported more cold and flu-like symptoms.
The original strains of Omicron that were circulating in March 2022 were called BA.1 and BA.2, and their dominance was quickly replaced by BA.4 and BA.5, one result of which was a marked increase in infections.

The Zoe Health Study, led by Tim Spector, a professor at King's College London, has been tracking symptoms of Covid-19. He said the spread of the new coronavirus is still active.
Spector has been calling for an update of the list of officially recognized symptoms of Covid-19 for the past two years to better match infection data from crowd-tracking software.

old list
In April 2022, the UK Health Safety Agency (UKHSA) updated the new crown symptom list (in English) to include 9 symptoms including sore throat, muscle pain and diarrhea.
However, the NHS, the UK's national health service, noted that many of the symptoms on the latest list were "extremely similar" to the common cold and flu.
Before the update, the official British common symptoms of the new crown are as follows:
fever
a persistent cough
loss of smell and taste
However, in the early days of the epidemic, people understood that these three symptoms are just the tip of the iceberg. Official lists of COVID-19 symptoms from the World Health Organization (WHO) and other countries, including the United States, are much longer than that.
The new crown symptoms updated in April 2022 are these:
Shortness of breath
feeling tired, exhausted
body pain
Headache
sore throat
stuffy or runny nose
loss of taste
diarrhea
feeling unwell or sick
